Daily Quiz A father beats up his own son , because he was drunk ? Who was drunk ?
It's a perplexing question that invites multiple answers from readers.
The quastion above is know as ambiguous antedecent or a faulty pronoun reference. It therefore disrupts the flow of a compound sentence sentence, as simple as it may look at first glance , the end of the reading brings ambiguity of the prose .
The answer can be either the father of the son in other words two possible antedecent.
The clue lies in the personal pronoun (He). The person ( father or son )first person , and the third singular (he) also known as personal pronoun which substitute both father and son .

Hopefully the above answers the question, it's been simplified from English rules of ambiguous antedecent and the structure of the prose borrowed from set of questions where son and father was interchanged from mother and daughter.
